Lakemont Park
Altoona, PA

Lakemont Park is located just South of Altoona, PA in the town of Lakemont. The park is home to a number of rides and a waterpark. The signature ride for 1999 will likely be Leap-The-Dips which is the world's oldest standing roller coaster dating from 1902.

There is also a museum about Lakemont Park on the property with many photographs and props form years gone by. The museum has limited hours though so call to make sure it will be open before visiting the park.

General admission and parking are free. A very reasonable priced pay-one-price plan is available or you can pay for each ride with tickets.

To reach Lakemont park, From the PA Turnpike in Bedford, take Interstate 99 (formally route 220) to the Frankstown road exit. Go straight across the exit onto Park road and the park will be on your right about 1/4 mile ahead.

Parking is free.

The big news for 1999 is that Leap-The-Dips, the words oldest roller coaster (built 1902) will operate once again  after years of standing idle. Also, a minor league Baseball Stadium is being built on the property.

Lakemont has a nice assortment of rides including Leap-The-Dips, the worlds oldest coaster and the Skyliner, a PTC wood coaster moved to the park in the late 1980s. The Skyliner was originally located at Roseland park in Canandaigua, NY and moved to Lakemont when that park failed.

Lakemont is also home to a Train Ride featuring Pony Shoe Curve, a play on the fact that the park is close to the famous Horseshoe Curve. There are also two race tracks and water slides.

For a thorough history of Lakemont Park, including it's days as Boyertown USA, I suggest the book A History of Lakemont Park 1894-1989 published by the Lakemont Park Historical Museum, Inc. in 1990 (no ISBN).
