Lazer X Brings Thrills to Longview

Lazer X has opened, and its owners promise a new level of interactive recreation for East Texas.

Mark and Susan Watson, owners of the laser tag arena and arcade, said Lazer X will offer the most sophisticated laser tag system available.

"I am excited to be bringing this interactive entertainment venture to the Longview area," Mark Watson said. "It's a great way for families to get together, to play, and have fun."

Susan Watson said the business was open two nights by invitation only to give area residents their first taste of Lazer X.

"It's been exciting; we've had lots of people who've had lots of fun," she said. The facility will be open for birthday and other parties, lock-ins and also features group rates, Watson said.

Lazer X, at 2523 Judson Road, Suite B, in the North Loop Plaza shopping center in Longview, will be open 10 a.m. to midnight today and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday, Mark Watson said.

In the laser tag game, after a short briefing, as many as 20 competitors at a time are released into the laser tag arena, he said.

"Once inside this space-age arena, players attempt to tag others by firing laser beams at their opponents' light-sensitive detectors," Watson said. Computerized equipment on the vest and gun enable each player to see when they've successfully tagged an opponent and when an opponent has tagged them.

"A real-time scoring system keeps up-to-the-second ranks for each individual," he said. The 6,000-square-foot arena features what Watson calls "cutting-edge technology," including such special effects as motion-detecting mines, complex puzzles, and interactive robots.

"All this with Lazer X's adrenaline-surging music guarantees players an intense thrill," Watson said. The whole idea behind Lazer X is to play, pretend, and have fun, he said.

To help direct customers to the business, the Watsons are bringing what they said is the most powerful theatrical laser in the world. The bright green skylight can be seen up to 60 miles away, they said.
