Okay I know that strictly speaking this is not a makeup: but they're my rules so I can break them for special cases. And this one is special both for the movie itself and for this amazing portrayal of a robot.
Metropolis was the first big-budget science fiction movie and it's inflences are legion from Hard Times to Dark City. Set in 2026, it portrays a world divided by class where the son of a capitalist discovers the atrocious conditions of the factory slaves. He falls in love with the charismatic non-violent reformer Maria. But Maria is a threat to the rulers, so they have the mad-scientist Rotwang concoct a robot double to take her place and incite the workers to riot.
